"Eating little and often – like Jennifer – could help dieters achieve a healthy weight loss," a new study suggests.
The study, which was conducted by researchers from California State University together with other research institutes in the U.S., has prompted other News agencies to suggest that we should “Forget three square meals a day – eating six smaller portions is better for your waistline”. Don’t be quick to change your diet though as the study was misinterpreted by a number of media companies. The study had its findings published in Nutrition Research, a peer-reviewed medical journal and it was funded by University of Mexico.
In addition to that, they received all food products which were used in the study from Inc, a commercial weight loss company which provides calorie-controlled food portions for the purpose of weight loss. From the study the researchers found that women lost similar weight amounts regardless of the number of times they ate at a daily basis. In the study 11 women who were obese at similar low number of calories in either six meals a day or even two meals a day.
With both the diets they lost around similar body weight. They also tend to retain their non-fat mass in an event that they took up the six meals a day diet. On the other hand levels of cholesterol were good among those who were on a 2 meal diet. According to the researchers, calorie restrictions are an effective way one can use when losing weight. Individuals with good cholesterol levels consumed two meals which had these calories a day. Conversely, calories which are consumed in the six-meal diet preserved fat-free mass during a weight loss process.
